BP Oil “Spill”
Thing that people don’t seem to get, is if this is as bad as the worst case can be, it’s not a problem of killing dolphins in the gulf or shorebirds etc. on the coast. Worst case scenario is it kills elk in Wyoming, oryx in Africa. If it is as bad as the worst case can be and the ocean dies well that’s that. Kudos to the cockroaches. Stop thinking locally oh woe is the Governor of Mississippi because he’s not putting hay bales out to soak up the oil, but also stop trying to hang the BP execs right now. We need —NEED— BP and all the dopes who brought this upon us. If it turns out that these robot-engineers can get this thing capped and we don’t all die, then they deserve to be hailed as heroes and written about with no hint of malice. They were working within the system, even if that system was rotted and they took advantage, that is what we reward in this world. And now they’re the ones (as in 1 — nobody else) who are our hope for fixing the thing. We all knew this world wasn’t going to end with some asteroid or space invasion. We knew it would end with some guy going “oh shit” and the rest of us going “what?”

Stop being mad. Being mad doesn’t help. Being angry helps when you get shortchanged at the 7–11, maybe. Get smarter. Stop worrying about who’s gay or rich or not and —just stop worrying. Resolve, a little, to be smarter. Wiser. Less selfish and more aware that cheap flights to Thailand are as responsible for this as the asshole who drives a Hummer to work and they’re both as responsible as the guy who signed off on the permits and the other guy who said they didn’t need the blowout preventer and the other guy who said this can’t happen. Yeah. I’m ranting and it doesn’t make sense and I’m a hypocrite. So what? I delude myself sometimes that at least I’m a little bit focused on what matters. Who did it? Doesn’t matter. Who’s gonna fix it? Doesn’t matter as long as it happens. And when it happens there better be a parade. Whoever figures out how to jam a giant Kotex in that thing better get a parade down Fifth Avenue and we all better get a day off work forever because it’s not a small thing. It’s not something to bicker over. It’s something to make us say “I am alive and I am happy and I will not waste another day being angry! and I will not let this happen again.”

Logo for community center in the heart of downtown Powell, Wyoming.

Plaza Diane Community Center for the Arts. A 50s-era gas station in the heart of downtown had gone to seed. It was converted to a community space for art shows and classes, music outdoors and a splash park fountain to help make downtown a destination… Original architect’s drawings had some flourishes that made me think of Japanese art and architecture, so I created a P-D emblem reminiscent to match. The Roman type is a plainer gothic font that is more at home in a gas station.
